Many Are Called, Few Are Chosen
Many people work long and arduous hours in very important fields. Fields such as medical, police and security, human services, political, church, and psychological. As good as what that work is, it doesn't make their Spirit richer. Some people work in the minimum wage jobs, or unemployed altogether. As humble as those jobs are, they do not cause a person's Spirit to be worth less. Everyone's Spirit is worth the same and it's function cannot be changed by the work we do! Some Children of God will enter into nursing homes, assist in emergency situations, help with social needs, be active in Church, and provide emotional support to those who hurt. As good as that is, it does not increase our worth to God, and doesn't require the atonement of sin through Jesus Christ. Some Children of God, who do a lot less of that work, have the same "payment" as those doing a great deal of work. Here's the difference, those who are working less will be the chosen ones.
They are chosen because they do not rely on earthly works, instead they rely on the grace of God through the Message of the Cross. There is nothing we can do to make ourselves worth more, or worth less, to God. At Calvary, we all receive the same equal "payment" regardless of the work and activity in which we participate. Our payment consists of having our sinful nature put to death through Christ, the resurrection of the Spirit to renew our fellowship with the Spirit of God, and baptism in the Holy Spirit. The work is within us, which is the work of God through the Cross, which has nothing to do with our own endeavors. Many are called to good works through Christ, but many focus more on the good works and less on the Message of the Cross. The few who are chosen live according to the payment, and that payment received is to pay the debt of sin. The chosen few know the payment has nothing to do with their worldly endeavors, but is totally a work of grace.
"...Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny. And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house, Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day."
